Bad Neighborhood Living Just Got Cheaper
20 February 2007 - R. Mark Sink - Euthenist.org
Now with a click of a mouse you can see the neighborhood
school records from the FCAT in Florida within seconds thanks to a
Jacksonville Real Estate company's website,
here. I immediately looked up my neighborhood to check the value
of my home. Not doing to bad, a few B's and most recently an A, with
no C's. I hope this means the value of my home will not decrease based
on the local education.
The system they provide on their website is amazingly fast, and you
can click on the little flags and instantly see the grades for the
entire state. This system will put pressure on certain neighborhoods
to participate more with their local school, which is good. It will
also increase the pressure upon the poorer neighborhoods to change,
who may not be able to because now, the focus to help them
financially, will have added pressure away from that process based on
bottom dollar issues.
Getting the grades up in the state is obviously good, but many things
in the education system are still way out of whack. A good start in
understanding the myths around our schooling would be to visit John
Gatto's website,
Myths of Modern Schooling, and brush up on reality.
All this tracking is helpful it seems, but doesn't really solve
problems other than for those who want to protect their personal
values. The additional monitoring has many bad connotations related to
privacy and a perfect example is the new laws concerning GPS and
fishing just passed right here on the west coast of Florida. Fisherman
now must be tracked, or they cannot fish legally.
It's nice to know all this information, but at the same time, the knowledge
brings the power to hurt people, and if this was stopped, the
tracking would have to stop, so our future will be easier, and
easier to lose your rights it seems. So now when you're lost at sea
or hiding from your lover, you can be saved. That means man is now
God. If we had left things alone, God would be responsible, not man.
So when someone is hurt with all the new tracking, who is doing the
hurting? |

"If you took a position not all that different from
James Madison’s. He said that in a democracy, the population has
a function. Its function is to be spectators, not participants.
He didn’t call it the population. He called it the ignorant and
meddlesome outsiders." - Norm Chomsky [ link ]
"If you can convince them that one person owns all the land,
then they don’t have access to the land which means they don’t
have access to food, clothing and shelter, which means they
don’t have access to self sufficiency, which means they have to
go to work for you. It’s really very simple." - Derrick
Jensen

"Any political and economic system that does not operate in
accordance with the three basic laws of ecology is doomed to
failure. These laws are (1) The law of diversity, (2) the law of
