Please read comments about this article and your drinking water supply.
If you think humans can survive on chemical sport drinks and sweetened
chemical black soup, we are sadly wrong. The Great Lakes aren't toilets?

Report Says Great Lakes Becoming Toxic Waste Dump
05 July 2007 - citinews.ca Staff
| The Great Lakes aren't toilets, so why are we treating
them like they are? A new report released by the environmental rights
group Environmental Defence says the levels of toxic chemicals in fish
found in the Great Lakes are alarmingly high. Aaron Freeman, policy
director for the group which released the report, says we are treating
the waters as a toxic waste dump. |

"We are clearly not doing enough to protect this vital ecosystem. We
need stronger pollution regulations and a real plan from the federal
and provincial governments to clean up the Lakes," says Freeman.
| The report, titled Up to the Gills: Pollution in Great Lakes Fish,
analyzed the fish advisories published by the Ontario Ministry of the
Environment for four species in 13 locations across the Great Lakes.
Eight types of fish became more contaminated in the last two years.
Also, many categories are somewhat or completely unfit for human
consumption and other fish are becoming that way. |

The pollutants found include P.C.B's, mercury and pesticides, which
can damage the nervous, respiratory and immune systems, as well as
cause cancer.
| "The toxics can really add up," says Freeman. "Fish from the
supermarket, from the chip stand and from the Great Lakes all contain
various concentrations of harmful contaminants, which all together can
have serious cumulative effects on human health." |

More than 20 municipalities still dump untreated raw sewage into the
Lakes. In 2002, over 627 million kilograms of industrial pollutants
were dumped into the land and water around the lakes.
There are numerous recommendations in the report, such as improving
the information used in fish advisories, reducing pollution from
industry and sewage systems as well as enchancing the Canada-U.S.
response to threats to fish in the Great Lakes.

Comments: Unfortunately, this information
that you are now becoming aware of makes no difference because you
missed the boat. The damage was done years ago. What WILL be done is
manipulation! People who have the most interests will be taken care
of. People who do not, will not, and will lose much in the end.

Additional notes: The above article
is a perfect example of newspapers and their staff's capabilities. I
did not correct the spelling of the word Defense as it was misspelled as Defence
which may be the correct spelling for Canada, but I was not aware of
it.
I did not alter the text in any way. I realize we all misspell
words, but in newspapers there doesn't seem to be an excuse that is
acceptable, but you be the judge. |
